The New Deal & The Great Society Essay Example for Free
The New fix The Great Society EssayAs we look back in modern American history, there be three sizable reform periods from 1890 through the 1960s. These three periods were The Progressive accomplishment, 1890 to 1914, The New Deal, 1933 to 1938, and The Great Society, 1964 to 1968. The ultimate goal of these reform periods was to improve the United States Economically, Socially, and Politically. The Progressive Period helped the nation economically by dislodging the monopolies that provided utilities to the urban areas. This formulated more affordable utilities to the everyday citizen. The New Deals prospective of helping with economics was by closing heap all of the banks. Then FDR pushed the Emergency Banking Act through Congress, which gave the government to inspect the financial health of the banks. They also founded the FDIC, which insured all deposits $5,000 and under. The Great Society brought around a tax-cut to help stimulate business. Pink Flamingo Essay Example for Free
Pink Flamingo EssayIn Jennifer costs essay entitled The moldable Pink Flamingo A Natural History, she uses rhetoric devices to convey her opinions of the emptiness of American culture. Price interprets the pink flamingos as a symbol of affluent American culture during the 1950s. Prices comparison of pink flamingos to American culture is demonstrated with the use of tone, satire, irony, comparison, and diction. Price varies her writing style as she varies the practice of rhetorical devices in this essay. She blatantly uses irony when she mentions that it is a little ironic, since Americans had hunted flamingos to extinction (Lines 13-14)Price mentions this historical fact to criticize that Americans are using the image of a shit that they had themselves once killed with no serious thought behind it. She belittles Americans because Americans would only use the image of the bird without any interest in the actual bird itself. She compares pink flamingos to American culture in o rder to illustrate the flamboyant and affluent society that America now experiences like the color of the flaming subsequently the gray days of The Great Depression. The author wants the readers to understand Flamingos now serve as an icon, a symbol of the wealthy, affluent, and thriving American culture. Price sets the positive away(predicate) from the noun that presents with dashes to accentuate the importance and the meaning of the word that it conveys. Las Vegas the flamboyant oasis of instant riches gives more emphasis on the extravagance and the richness of the atmosphere of Las Vegas through the use of a positive saying.Price often uses periodic sentences in order to give more explanations on what she is trying to say. They are often utilise when she gives the historical information of the pink flamingos When the pink flamingo splashed into the fifties market, it staked two major charters to boldness. But not only does it add the explanation, but also highlights the claim of the pink flamingos. What had once been only an option available for the wealthy high-class of America, vacations had started to open up to even people of the middle-class.The flamingo not only showed that there was a need for change in American lifestyle, but that a time for change in the way Americans behave is now. The flamingo was a motivator of behavior and heathen change in the U. S. , and even today it is still the symbol of the essential 1950s lifestyle. Now is this Author really talking about pink flamingos or is she really saying something more? Almost like a hidden message, Price is telling just how we as Americans consume anything and everything we have access to.Price says Americans had hunted flamingos to extinction, can this bird be representing the power of Americans to us thing up as way to live? Jennifer Price is telling us something in her passage, and that is us consuming and diving out something to extinction. Americans as well as the rest of the world have been doing it for years and we will keeps doing it until the world is dried up. Therefore, until we assure the next big break through everyone wonders what is going to be its future on us.

The simplest form of bridge the beam bridges
The simplest form of tie the beam connectsBeam BridgesThe beam type of bridge is by far the simplest and the beam type of bridge is also the most common. You probably see beam link often. A beam bridge is just a beam supported by pillars or columns. Materials and ConstructionBeam bridges ar commonly built from concrete. Beam bridges are also made of mark, or a mixture of steel and concrete. They often are made in sections, or boxes, where they are attached at the site of the bridge. The boxes are made out of steel and concrete or just concrete. Arch BridgeIn this type of bridge, the weight is carried outward along two curving paths. The points where the arch reaches the ground keep the bridge up by resisting the outward thrust. The roadway is located on top of the arch. Suspension BridgesSuspension bridges bridge the unbridgeable. In a suspension bridge, cables which are suspended via towers which support them hold up the road deck. The weight is transferred by the cables to the towers, which then in turn transfer the weight to the ground. Materials and ConstructionThe amount of towers on suspension bridges can vary, but a suspension bridge MUST suck in at least two towers. When possible, these towers are built on ground. However, there are methods for making floating towers that are secured. Towers are usually built with hollow steel boxes, but some are built with concrete. protrude BridgeCantilever bridges depend on counterbalances. Counterbalances are weights used to balance another weight. They consist of two or more (which many protrude bridges have at least four) arms that equally balance each other, almost like a perfectly balanced see-saw. Often, the part of the bridge that leads to the first cantilever is just a beam bridge. Materials and ConstructionSome use one arch to connect (and essentially act as) the arm. Others just have arms and a roadway, or arms, a roadway, and cables that work like a cable-stayed bridge. Cantilever bridges are buil t in a way mistakable to beam and arch bridges, depending on how the bridge is designed. Truss BridgeA truss bridge is a bridge composed of connected elements (typically straight) which may be stressed from tension, compression, or sometimes both in response to dynamic loads. Truss bridges are one of the oldest types of modern bridges. The basic types of truss bridges shown in this article have simple designs which could be easily analysed by nineteenth and early twentieth century engineers. A truss bridge is sparing to construct owing to its efficient use of materials. Our bridge designOur bridge design is modelled after the Warren truss bridge design. The project has a pass weight design this is to ensure not to go over the weight requirement. This structure is easy to construct and, shown by the force analysis, can distribute loads efficiently.

Food Purchasing Cost Control
Food Purchasing Cost ControlIn the hospitality indus pronounce, buy may be defined as a swear taboo concerned with the search, selection, purchase, receipt, computer memory, and final use of a commodity in accordance with the catering policy of the establishment. (Davis and Kotas, 198647)Davis and Kotas (1986) suggest that acquire is a fundamental function in the drink control cycle. If this function is managed efficiently, then any hotel lowlife attain calibre beverage products at the bring low limit cost possible according to the confederations financial objectives. The objective of beverage purchase is to procure the best note of items, at the lowest equipment casualty for a peculiar(prenominal) purpose. It is a must to form considerable attention to the beverage cost control since beverages ordain normally throw in more profits than food. less staff is necessary to process beverage into a finished item for consumption by the customers comp atomic number 18s to fo od. (Davis et al, 2008)3.2 The Purchasing PersonnelStaff members that are responsible for the beverage purchases vary depending on the showcase and size of the establishment. (Davis and Kotas, 1986)The get music director is responsible for the beverage purchase function in Hotels angiotensin-converting enzyme and ii. In Hotel-Three the purchasing double-decker and the food and beverage handler are responsible for the beverage purchasing function whereas in Hotel-Four the purchasing manager and the cost controller are accountable for this function. In Hotel-Two when there is a special theme night, the food and beverage manager go away join the purchasing manager for such occasions. The purchasing function is centralised as hotel purchasing for Hotels One and Four. On the other hand the purchasing function is centralised as a group purchasing for Hotels Two and Three. It was agreed by all the interviewed military unit that the purchasing personnel have to be experienced and spangledgeable ab let out the products that they have to order. In fact the purchasing manager in Hotel-Three has over thirty years of experience in this function. In the case of Hotel-Two it was mentioned that although experience and knowledge are vital for the purchasing function, roughly items in Malta are standard. Additionally it was overly pointed out that the purchasing function depends on the demand of other departments. There have to be cross running(a) teams (that is team effort) and strong communication among all the hotel departments.Standards for beverage purchasing are developed for all the four hotels interviewed. Quality is given primary priority in all the hotels interviewed apart from for Hotel-Two where the first preference is on the price. In the case of Hotel-One, the products have to satisfy the bar manager and afterwards the purchasing personnel allow deal for the best price for the pre-established character reference. They go forth try to obtain the be st price at the best quality. In Hotel-Three the purchasing personnel will try to attain a balance between price and quality however Quality is on top of the agenda. It is essential to consider the purchase of some of beverage items of each outlet separately. For example the wines offered at the pool bar will be at a lower quality and at a lower price when compared to the main bar. Each product can have a good quality, very good quality or best quality. The purchasing personnel have to choose the quality that is adequate for the specific outlet. In Hotel-Four both quality and price are given right of way however quality will always win. In Hotel-Two price is given precedence in the sense that, when choosing between two products with similar quality but different prices, the purchasing personnel will go for the cheaper product. The quantities of beverages to be ordered are envisiond by the shopkeeper with the skilled assistance of the purchasing manager using a par post level. When required in Hotel-One the cost controller will help out to determine the quantities to be ordered. In Hotel-Three the food and beverage manager will assist when needed to determine such quantities.3.3 The Selection of SuppliersThe suppliers selected can be either existing suppliers or potential suppliers. The advantage of the existing suppliers is that the quality of the goods received, the price and the service offered would all be already known. According to Dopsen, hay and Miller (2007) when dealing with new suppliers it is vital to exercise prudence and to get the succeeding intercommunicateation as a minimumFull details of the firm and the range of items it is sellingCopies of recent price tends flesh out of trading termsDetails of other customers they deal withSamples of products.Ideally there should be a visit to any potential supplier to enhance knowledge about the size of the company the range of the products the size of processing and storage facilities and to meet me mbers of the management team. All these factors facilitate a sustainable long-term business relationship. (Dopsen, Hayes and Miller, 2007)Suppliers can be chosen on the basis of their reputation in the market, upon an investigation of a supplier and on the basis of their performance. The best supplier is the one who provides the firm with the some efficient service with regard to meter, quality, price and economy performance. (Davis and Kotas, 198653)In all the hotels except for Hotel-Four there is a list of agreed suppliers from whom products are bought. Hotel-One has a list of preferred suppliers from whom the purchasing personnel will buy continually. It is a preferred suppliers list rather than an canonic suppliers list. The advantage of having a preferred rather than an approved list is that if any particular supplier will give you a hard time (not reliable towards the hotel), then this supplier can be right away re dappled. Hotel-Two has an approved supplier when it comes to soft drinks and beers. When it comes to spirits, the suppliers are preferred rather than approved.Hotel-Three has contracts with the suppliers containing pre-agreed prices and pre-agreed quality of the listed products, however if something will not vary for example the quality will deteriorate, the purchasing personnel will alter the supplier if the problems will not be tackled. Although there is a contract, it is not a fixed contact that is the hotel personnel are not obliged to buy the beverage products from the specific supplier. Hotel-Four does not have any suppliers list. In this hotel the suppliers are chosen according to the quality of the products, the type of brands required and the services that the supplier will offer to the hotel. When selecting the suppliers, the criteria evaluated by Hotel-One are credit term, quality and prices. The credit term period is given top priority. According to Hotel-One it is trifling to go for the best quality and the best price if the credit terms period is short. In Hotel-Two price is given top priority when selecting suppliers while quality and lead time are also analysed to make the right decision. In the other two hotels quality is the most influential factor used to determine the suppliers to be chosen for the beverage products.Dopsen, Hayes and Miller (2007) explained that the supplier performance can be evaluated using the rating system which usually includes price, quality and delivery performance. Potential suppliers performance is only evaluated by Hotel-Three. Every now and then the purchasing manager will pick some items and verify if there is a better product in the market than the one that the hotel is currently using. The purchasing manager without involving employees in operation will pick up different products and will make a blind presentation and tasting of the product. The purchasing department will decant the product that will be identifiable (delete the tag and the supplier name) and the foo d and beverage manager will rate the product using a rating sheet including quality, yields among other factors. The person rating the product will not know who the supplier is.Although the decision taken will not be based on price, the food and beverage personnel will know the price to be able to match the product being tasted with its price accordingly. There have to be a balance between quality and price. It can be that the product quality is superior compared to the hotel standard thus the product will not be affordable. Then the rating sheet is filled out.Hotel-One pointed out that the suppliers evaluation and performance is not nimble because this does not add any value on the hotel sales. The cheapest item is not automatically the best to buy since inexpensive products can lead to low quality. Normally the responsible persons go for the supplier on the basis of the quality required and then negotiate the best price for it. There is always a trade-off between quality and pric e.3.4 The Purchasing ProcedureAccording to Dopsen, Hayes and Miller (2007) the various steps in the purchasing procedure areThe initiation of a request to purchase beverages by an authorised employee such as the head of department or restaurant managerThe selection of the source of supply from which the goods are to be purchased, and the price to be paidEntering into a contract with the supplier by telephone, electronically or in writingObtaining a cheering delivery performance from the supplier with regard to time, date and place of deliveryThe acceptance of goods ordered and the transfer to the parliamentary procedure department or to the stores.Purchasing is not a separate activity. What, how and when you buy must always reflect the overall goals of your establishment. Trends change so must you, the purchaser. (Brown, 2005396)Dopsen, Hayes and Miller (2007) recommend that the procedure should reflect the type of the establishment and the market where it operates. Those respons ible should consider the location of the establishment in relation to its suppliers the size of the storage facilities of the hotel the shelf life of the beverage product and the companys purchasing power. Whatever the establishment is, it is crucial to have a sound purchasing policy so that satisfactory standards will be achieved.3.5 Purchasing OrdersIn every hotel it is vital to have purchasing policies and procedures which are planned to allow business transactions to take place smoothly between supplier and receiver. Documentary evidence should confirm that the procedures are actually being followed. In Hotel-One purchase orders are authorised by the purchasing officer and the financial controller while in Hotel-Two these are authorised by the group purchasing manager. In Hotel-Three the purchase orders are authorised by the cost controller or the general manager while in Hotel-Four these are authorised by the head of department and the latter will also communicate with the finan cial controller and the general manager, if deemed necessary. In all the hotels those authorising purchase orders are independent from those responsible for issuing requisitions. This prevents certain abuses that can be carried out when the resembling person will be responsible for both authorising purchase orders and for issuing requisitions. In Hotel-Two the persons issuing requisitions are the head of departments or the supervisors. Then the storekeeper will deliver the items that were previously ordered and the cost controller will verify that every order is in its perspective. In Hotel-Four the purchase orders are prepared by the head of departments while for the other three hotels, the purchase orders are prepared by the purchasing manager.Every hotel has a system of par stock level. In Hotel-One the cost controller will work to create a par stock level which will depend on the period of the year, the type of functions that the hotel has, and the type of clients that the hotel has. The aim of these par stock levels is to have some items of every stock with a limited quantity since excessive stock means coin put down the drain. Additionally useless stock will lead to negative cash flows. In Hotel-Two it was remarked that the par stock level used is an unceremonious one that will be adapted according to the company needs. A point to note is that in Malta, hoteliers work a lot on a last minute purchases. This can be used since distances are short and so if there is a stock item missing, you can phone the supplier and the latter will bring the item in a few hours. In Hotel-Three the cost controller is responsible to ensure that stocks in the stores are unbroken lowest as possible as these will represent idle money. The information contained in the purchase orders of each hotel is nearly identical to each other. Hotels One and Three does not have the terms of payments listed in the purchase orders. The purchase order of Hotel-Three contained a disclaimer tha t declares that if the supplier (who will receive the purchase order) will not agree with the purchase order in terms of quantity or price or he does not have the pre-agreed brand, the supplier shall inform the purchasing manager before the delivery. In Hotel-Four the type of brand is not listed in the purchase orders. All the hotels have sequentially pre-numbered purchase orders. Normally a copy of the purchase order is being received by the supplier. The goods received clerk/storekeeper will also receive the purchase order and the same copy will go to the cost controller who will attach it with the invoice and passes it through his system and then the cost controller will give the purchase order to the accounts clerk who will pass it through the accounting system. On receipt of an authorised requisition form, it is vital to check the economic quantity to be purchased by checking the existing stocks and the sales volume forecast. After establishing the purchase requirements, a formal written purchase order is prepared. This serves as the basis for ordering. written records lessen misunderstandings so it is better to maintain some written record of purchases, preferably on a purchase order, to verify the accuracy of deliveries received. (Dopsen, Hayes and Miller, 2007)3.6 net RemarkThink of purchasing as a cycle, not a one-time activity. Purchasing is not just a matter of phoning or emailing another order. You dont demand to run out, nor do you want to overstock. (Brown, 2005395)

Howdoes Hardy reflect Tesss mood through landscape in these extracts? How does Lawrence use setting and place in Tickets Please? How dothese two writers manage to convey a sense of the time at which thesestories are written? The first extract I have chosen to analyse in Tess of theDUrbervilles when Tess is happy is In the Rally XVI on page 132-134.This melts in to the happy mood of Tess as she has set out from homefor the second time to the Talbothays dairy, where she meets Angel. Inemploying the Nature motif into Hardys work, he has been able to useit to describe the character feelings. The second extract in whichnature echos Tesss not so happy mood is The Maiden No More XVI,pages 109-110.Hardy has used the language in the Rally XVI extract to show whatstate of mind Tess is in. Firstly he uses adverbs that help to set them ood, and give the landscape a more vivid description. Examples ofsome of the adverbs Hardy uses are, luxuriantly, intensely, wonderfully, profusely, continually. These words are allassociated with happiness and cheeriness and do not give the text asense of gloom, and are generally enthusiastic words. Lawrence has used thesetting to determine what will happen to the characters and what sortof climax or twist that he wants to build into the story. This isevident in the beginning of Tickets Please when a gloomy atmosphere isset, making one of the protagonists Annie, feeling dull and notaroused. Then Lawrence uses the exciting funfair to set the mood oflove and passion, and then finally the climax of the fight, fortifiedby descript ion of the room.In conclusion both writers have similar ways of expressing the scenerythrough usage of grammatical tools, but different ways of displayingthis, and have variations in their style of writing and the intensityof the language.
